Newton County is the 46th county in Arkansas, having been formed on December 14th, 1842. The county was named after Thomas W. Newton, an historical Arkansas Congressman. The county seat is the picturesque town of Jasper, Arkansas.

Newton County is approximately 822 square miles of rugged beauty. A majority of the county is public land, offering many outdoor recreational opportunities. It is home to The Ozark National Forest, The Buffalo National River (America’s first National River), multiple Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Wildlife Management Areas and more.

We are not only known for our great floating, hiking, hunting, fishing, climbing and sightseeing, but also as a premier motorcycle destination, family vacation destination and more.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to providing professional service to our citizens and visitors, not only in Law Enforcement, but in Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical Response and Public Outreach.
